Information about COVID-19

No need to panic, we have put together all the important information that you need to know about COVID-19.

What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is a virus that causes respiratory illness.


What are the symptoms?

The most common symptoms include:

  • fever

  • cough

  • extreme tiredness


Most people (about 80%) recover from this disease without needing special treatment.


However, it can cause serious illness. Those who are older, and those with other medical problems are more likely to develop serious illness, which can include:

  • difficulty breathing

  • pneumonia


Prevent the Spread - What You Should Do

Influenza and other common viruses remain the most likely cause of a respiratory infection.

To protect yourself and others:

  • wash your hands for at least 20 seconds with warm water & soap.

  • cover coughs and sneezes with your elbow.

  • skip shaking hands or hugging and go for a fist bump!

Travellers

Returned before March 12

Travellers returning from Italy, Iran, China’s Hubei province and the Grand Princess cruise ship should self-isolate for 14 days and monitor for symptoms. Travellers returning from other countries outside Canada should monitor for symptoms for 14 days. If symptoms develop (cough, fever, fatigue or difficulty breathing), stay home and call Health Link 811 for testing.


Returning after March 12

All travellers returning from outside Canada should self-isolate for 14 days and monitor for symptoms. If symptoms develop (cough, fever, fatigue or difficulty breathing), stay home and call Health Link 811 for testing. Do not go to the ER or doctor's office.



We do ask that if you have travelled, been around someone with COVID-19 or are presenting symptoms, that you call us before coming in.


Self Isolation

Self-isolation means avoiding situations where you could infect other people like transportation, doctor's offices, grocery stores & gatherings.
